As a certified composer and performer having Master degrees in both classical and popular music , I’m involved with various musical genres and disciplines.

BACKGROUND

My background being a classical saxophonist as well as a pianist and singer of popular & jazz music resulted in a compositional style, characterized by a persistent attempt to create and develop understandable, but at the same time surprising music. My various experiences in the past as a soloist, orchestra player, band member, singer songwriter, musical director and producer offered me a unique empathy with the diverse genres, musicians, singers and artists I compose for. Besides composing for orchestra, chamber music, popular and instrumental music, I have a special interest in creating music for the theatre. Together with the Dutch director & writer Koen van Dijk (Tony Award Nominee in 1994), I’m working on some new musical productions. Because of the combination of my classical and popular skills, I’m frequently asked to lead new theatre productions as a musical director.
Furthermore, I’m also a qualified musical pedagogue and teach the saxophone, music theory and composition (all classical and jazz) at several art institutes around the city of Antwerp, Belgium. In line with my composition thesis (see “History”), I’m studying musical form in order to understand the principles of conventional “catchy” (but at the same time non-cliché) theme writing in classical as well as popular music. As part of this research I’m occasionally giving lectures as a guest speaker at conferences or music classes.
